In 1957 John
Lennon was so impressed by Paul McCartney's version of Eddie Cochran's
''Twenty Flight Rock', he invited him to join his group, the Quarrymen.
You know the rest... And i've been invited to perform at the 50th
anniversary celebrations! We're planning a 50's rock'n'roll version
of our CLASSIC! night. A chance to play the songs that influenced
and inspired the four lads who shook the world! And there's even a
possibility of me doing 'Twenty Flight Rock' with the QUARRYMEN! IT'S
GONNA BE A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE, AND ONE I CAN'T WAIT FOR! So if you're
in town, come and see a fantastic meeting of the great generations
of Liverpool pop history. And of course, there's bound to be a bargain
bring and buy sale... and it's all in the early afternoon,so bring
the future!

PREVIEW: Classic!
6, The Zanzibar, Liverpool
by Alan O'Hare He's
back - and this time he's not alone.
Fresh from a fantastic performance at the inaugural Knowsley Hall
Music Festival last weekend, Pete Wylie and The Mighty Wah! return
to the Zanzibar Club in Liverpool for another night of mayhem, mutterings
and music, this Saturday.
Classic! - the
monthly night Wylie hosts at the uber-trendy Seel Street venue - has
seen the local legend play his biggest hits and a bunch of top-notch,
classic cover versions acoustically and with special guests, since
the turn of the year.
The night has
gone from strength to strength - and has featured star turns from
Liverpool heroes like Ian McNabb, Martyn Campbell, Ian Prowse, Mike
Badger and Steve Roberts. But this month, the spotlight turns back
on Wylie, as the motormouth songwriter brings his new-look band to
The Zanzibar for Classic! to plug in.
He's promising
a full-on rock 'n' roll show and is nicely warmed-up, after performing
in front of 30,000 punters at Knowsley last weekend.
The Zanzibar
is a little bit more intimate, so make sure you get down early to
hear all the classic hits and more from a Liverpudlian original.

A
MESSAGE FROM PETE...
john peel
changed my life.
the music he played thrilled and inspired me/us
then his faith gave us the confidence to do what we did.
he supported 'the story of the blues' for 2 months when everyone
else had given up on it,and that's what made it a hit.
and his friendship matters more than all that.
he named us the mighty wah!
i was the first person to co-host his show.
he said he never called an LP an album after i said it was wrong.
last time i saw him,he dj'ed in liverpool summer 2004,wearing
a mighty wah! tshirt.he went on at seven minutes to midnight...
anyone else you'd think 'coincidence'.but not with peelie.
one of the motivating forces behind my next lp's,'pete sounds'and
it's evil twin 'slime',was to make something peel would be proud
of.
it's a shame he's not around to find out.
and the 1982 wah! peel session has just been voted among the
125 best sessions ever!
i loved him,i love him,i owe him.
and i don't think i ever let him know...

PETE
WYLIE
PART TIME ROCKSTAR,FULL TIME LEGEND!
Press release
- 31/05/04
YOU CAN’T keep
a good man down… not even when that man is as maverick as they come.
Largely silent since the release (in 2000) of his hugely praised (but
still undervalued) ‘Songs of Strength and Heartbreak’, it
is with great pleasure that we can tell you that Pete Wylie has re-entered
the building.
Never one to do things
by halves, the Wah! man chose to plunge straight into the deep end with
a sell out solo show in New York at the end of 2003. He proved to himself
and to those lucky enough to be there(including kosmo vinyl[the 5th member
of the clash!]and ian mcculloch, who retuned to liverpool singing his praises)
that he still had it and was ready to re-enter the fray.
Backed by a couple
of new local heroes, gary and scott from The Bandits, robbie harper[the
mighty wah!]and Ian Templeton, drummer with SHACK,he’s just played
his first home town gig in four years at a very emotional last night at
the famous Picket venue. Looking and sounding better than he has for years,
he blazed through a set that proved he’s lost none of the old fire
and passion.
Back in the studio,
work has already begun on the next Wylie masterpiece, the ingeniously
titled ‘PETE SOUNDS’, with a release date set for late 2004/early
2005.
Pete recently wrote and produced the soundtrack for an ALEX COX BBC film,'i'm
a juvenile delinquent-jail me!',produced by hurricane films,for whom he's
currently scoring a feature film 'UNDER THE MUD',which also features a
cameo by pete.
In the meantime there is the small matter of his contribution to the re-recorded
version of ‘All Together Now’. This old Farm favourite is
set to be England’s official song in the European Championships
this summer, featuring pete's vocals and guitar.
PETE's
joining with them to perform the song before the england vs iceland game
at the city of manchester stadium on saturday june 5
and on channel 4 'pop beach' at great yarmouth on sunday june 6
and then, who knows-a return to topadapops?
If that’s not
enough his classic debut single ‘Better Scream’ is featured
on the just released Alan McGee compilation 'death disco ltd'. This is
the man who discovered and released records by the likes of Primal Scream,
My Bloody Valentine, and Oasis, and is currently working with the Libertines.
So obviously he knows something about wayward rock geniuses!
and,lest we forget,pete's
working on his autobiography,an-if you will-MEMWAH!
Watch out for more
live dates with a new band in the near future, featuring a mixture of
old favourites and new songs from ‘Pete Sounds’.
